Coherent atomic orbital polarization probes the geometric phase in photodissociation of polyatomic molecules

چکیده

Quantum interference between multiple pathways in molecular photodissociation often results angular momentum polarization of atomic products and this can give deep insight into fundamental physical processes. For dissociation diatomic molecules, the resulting orbital is fully understood consistent with quantum mechanical theory. polyatomic however, coherent photofragment frequently observed but so far has eluded theoretical explanation, lacking. Bonding in Organic Molecules. Atomic-orbital Models

I n previous chapters, we have shown how you can use ball-and-stick models to predict the general arrangements in space of organic molecules. The sticks correspond to chemical bonds, which we represent in structural formulas as lines, or in Lewis struc'tures as pairs of dots denoting shared pairs of electrons. Remembering that electrons and nuclei are charged particles, and that it is electrica...

Photodissociation of HI and DI: polarization of atomic photofragments.

The complete angular momentum distributions and vector correlation coefficients (orientation and alignment) of ground state I((2)P(32)) and excited state I((2)P(12)) atoms resulting from the photodissociation of HI have been computed as a function of photolysis energy. The orientation and alignment parameters a(Q) ((K))(p) that describe the coherent and incoherent contributions to the angular m...

Ultrafast charge transfer and atomic orbital polarization.

The role of orbital polarization for ultrafast charge transfer between an atomic adsorbate and a substrate is explored. Core hole clock spectroscopy with linearly polarized x-ray radiation allows to selectively excite adsorbate resonance states with defined spatial orientation relative to the substrate surface. For c(4 x 2)S/Ru(0001) the charge transfer times between the sulfur 2s(-1)3p*+1 anti...

Laser-pulse requirements for coherent and mode-selective excitation in the quasicontinuum of polyatomic molecules.

We show that the theory of nuclear magnetic relaxation applies with equal validity to intramolecular relaxation in the quasicontinuum of polyatomic molecules. This theory permits an analysis of the laser-pulse requirements for vibrational-mode selectivity and coherent multiphoton excitation. The laser Rabi precession frequency, microepsilon/h, should exceed 1/T(1) or 1/T(2), the intramolecular ...
